Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Beyoncé MTV VMAs 2009 update

Beyoncé and Taylor together on stage

Kanye kicked to the curb
; cries in caps

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards have come to an end and so much has already happened since Kanye West took to the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video to declare that Beyoncé Knowles should have instead won.

The most hilarious thing about Kanye's outburst?

It was all for nothing.

Beyoncé went on to win Video Of The Year later in the night.

As she accepted her award, gracious Ms. Knowles invited
Taylor back on stage to finish her speech.

"I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life," B said. "So I would like for
Taylor to come out and have her moment."

Said
Taylor, "Maybe we can try this again ... thanks to all of my fans on Twitter and MySpace and everyone who came out to my shows this summer."

It was a happier end to the night, which had proven rather traumatic for the 19-year-old country star.

Jay-Z’s DJ, Neil Armstrong, tweeted that he spotted Taylor and her mother in tears backstage.

@djneilarmstrong just so y'all know, homegirl taylor and her moms was in the back crying :(

That’s right: EVIL KANYE MADE TAYLOR CRY.

At the press conference after winning her award, Taylor spoke about the stage crash.

I was really excited, because I had just won the award. And then I was really excited because Kanye West was onstage,” she said. “And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.

But Swifty wasn’t about to get into a slanging match with Kanye, saying she was a fan of his music but had never met him before. “I don’t want to start anything because I had a great night tonight.

Adding with a laugh, “It’s definitely been an interesting night.”

MTV has confirmed that Kanye was "asked to leave" the event, but not before he was booed by the audience when he returned to his seat.

Pink – who we LOVE – apparently had to be held back by security when she spotted Kanye. GO PINK!

Later in the show the audience booed when Diddy read Kanye’s name as a nominee for Best Male Video.

Kanye, whose arrogance is a poor cover for his low self-esteem, was obviously stunned by the fact that the people had turned on the greatest entertainer of all time (on the very night that Madonna and Janet Jackson paid tribute to Michael Jackson) and rushed to his blog to “apologise” … ALL IN CAPSLOCK AS USUAL.

Wow, so heartfelt.

Go (away) West O’clock

Kanye West storms Taylor Swift’s MTV VMA 2009 win

WE HATE KANYE

…and love Taylor Swift more than ever

The fact that Kanye West has an out-of-control ego is nothing new. He never misses a chance to tell everyone how awesome he is, and seems to genuinely believe we should care about his opinions on everything from politics to fashion.

Oddly, there are people who actually seem to listen.

Well his “performance” at today’s MTV Video Music Awards in
New York may have finally changed all that.

Taylor Swift
, the super talented, sweet, 19-year-old country star who has shifted more albums than anyone other than Michael Jackson over the past year, received an award for Best Female Video for her song “You Belong With Me” (presented to her by Twilight star Taylor Lautner, natch).

“Thank you so much!”
she said, as she accepted her very first VMA. “I always dreamed what it would be like to maybe win one of these some day but I never thought it would actually happen.”

Unfortunately for her, King Kanye thought the award should have gone to Beyoncé Knowles for “Single Ladies”, and, being a shy violet, stormed the stage to share his opinion with the world, literally snatching the mic out of Taylor’s hand MID-SPEECH.

"Yo
Taylor I'm really happy for you,” he announced. “I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. Best videos of all time!"

He then shrugged, thrust the mic back into a stunned
Taylor's hand and stormed off.

A shocked Beyoncé, in the audience, didn’t know what to do, seeming to mouth "oh my God".

So awkward.

As stars leapt to their feet in support of a shaken but composed
Taylor, she wrapped up her speech … but sadly we couldn’t hear it because MTV cut to a skit by 30 Rock’s Tracy Morgan.

Dammit.

Anyway, see for yourself … (hopefully this link will stay up for a while, MTV is taking them down like crazy, but the official video from MTV is only able to be viewed in the US)

According to Pink, Kanye was swiftly evicted from the event. Rumour has it that his planned performance was cancelled and his awards given instead to the runners-up. Hmmm…

What Kanye did is tantamount to abuse, and poor
Taylor has probably still not recovered from the bully storming up to her and trying to steal her moment. You know, as well as the entire episode being pathetic and uncalled for. Hopefully Kanye will be able to get the counselling he so obviously needs. For too long people have shrugged off his egocentricity with claims that he is a “genius”. You know, because he steals the good bits of other people’s songs and then mumbles over the top of them. You like “Stronger”? Thank Daft Punk! You liked “Gold Digger”? Thank Ray Charles! I actually don’t have a problem with samples, I think they’re totally valid and can be completely awesome. I do have a problem with Kanye being hailed a creative genius for essentially being a covers artist.

Already celebrities – including the likes of Katy Perry and Pink, who were also nominated in the category – are mouthing off on his behaviour on Twitter. Below are some favourites:

@Pink Kanye west is the biggest piece of shit on earth. Quote me.

New Kids On The Block Cancel Australian Tour

NO Kids On The Block
Full Service FAIL
New Kids On The Block have cancelled their Australian tour.
AND I AM ROPABLE.
Donnie Wahlberg has left a nice blog on their website to explain why.
“Like many of our fans down under we too are saddened,” he writes. “Australia has always, ALWAYS, been one of our favorite places to travel to. And quite honestly we tried very hard to make it work. However we are, in fact, in the middle of a worldwide recession and we just cannot make it work. That is the simple truth.”
He then promises: “We can only assure you that when the recession’s stranglehold on the world’s economies eases up a bit we will find a way to make this work.”
Well, that might be fair enough DDub, but let’s break a few things down:
* Ticket prices for the shows were too high (the average price was $125, up to $175). Their fans are now in their late twenties and early thirties and plenty are pumping out kiddies. I had four (count them!) friends who were eager to go but balked at the price.
* The venues were too big (in Sydney they were set to play Acer Arena, rather than the more sensible Entertainment Centre).
* The group refused to do any promotional interviews. Who launches a massive tour in this day and age and refuses to speak to media? I mean, there are five of them. If they set aside an hour or so each they could have knocked over half the outlets in the country. It's not 1990 any more, bitches – you gotta do promo! Would it have saved the shows? I don’t know, but it seems like a pretty simple thing to do, no?
They also refused to do Australian promo when they released their rather good new album The Block. Why? Needless to say, despite duets with Lady GaGa and the Pussycat Dolls, it didn’t exactly bother the charts.
Klassic Kids: Because Boston teens love to surf
And while you might think they needed big budgets and staging to put on their all-singing, all-dancing spectacular, The Sun’s review of their Manchester gig would suggest otherwise.
“While the likes of Kylie Minogue, Coldplay and Kanye West blow the budget with dazzling audio-visual spectacles … [NKOTB’s] stage was almost barren, with just a raised walkway and rather limp hydraulic platform that the lads gyrated on from time to time.”
As you may be able to tell, I am a little disappointed. It would have been awesome to see the show and while Donnie says differently, I do doubt they’ll make it here again.
BAH!

PS: I just got slagged by crazy NKOTB fans on Twitter for tweeting “Lazy, selfish @nkotb can bite my ass for cancelling their Australian tour. You heard me ddub! BITE IT!”
Apparently “true fans” are mindless zombies who just write gushy tweets to Jon Knight and aren’t allowed to question their idols. A bit like Nazis, but with scrunch perms. Hey, I have the NKOTB dolls blockheads, back off!
Also, I would have written “arse”, but I was concerned Donnie wouldn’t understand.
