VMAs go Westside With Katy, Taylor and Russell Check out this brilliant Westside Story inspired promo for the upcoming MTV VMAs - they're calling it VMA Side Story - which features Cobra Starship, Leighton Meester, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and the award show's host, Russell Brand.
Although, let's be honest, MTV always make a good promo (even if this song is a little sub-par), but the awards can go either way. This half of the 'Brain thinks Russell is always good value, but the VMAs very often throw up very odd winners for awards - Britney won for "Piece Of Me", really? - but at least the list of performers, including Pink, Green Day and Lady Gaga, is impressive this year.
So mainstream media has caught onto "social networking" site Twitter, and everyone from Barbara Walters to Kerri-Anne Kennerly is happily filling airtime with talk of the "craze".
Critics will tell you that it’s boring, pointless, voyeuristic or just narcissistic.
In truth it is perhaps a bit of all of these. But stick with it long enough – a day or so – and reading about other people doing inane day-to-day things, in handy 140 characters or less bursts, proves to become compulsive reading.
As Carolyn has mentioned before, we're obsessed.
